Progress on CVN-80 and F4U-1D
Things move at a glacial pace in the dry docks and hangars in our basement. For the Enterprise CVN-80, I’ve added a few more details to the hangar deck: An F-35C, some ladders, and a few folks. A bunch of F-18s are in various stages of construction and will be added soon.
I finally restarted my 1/32 Tamiya F4U-1D, after coming far and dropping the original model. The model was in the final stages of painting, but the fall effectively totaled it. I purchased another kit a few months ago and only recently got back on track. This time, my plan is to build the thing straight out of the box, adding scratch-built details along the way. First up is the complex cockpit. Tamiya puts a lot of detail into this part of the model, but I’ve tweaked a few things. For instance, I’ve added labels and placards to the controls, mostly from Anyz. Also from Anyz are pointer knobs, added to the right bank of controls. The seatbelts are from HGW. Finally, piping has been added to the front bulkhead, the first phase of what will be an ongoing effort to add piping and conduits as I integrate the cockpit with the fuselage halves (e.g., piping to and from the oxygen bottle and regulator).
