F4U-1D Corsair progress
It’s been slow going lately on both the Trumpeter Enterprise (CVN-80) and Tamiya Corsair. On average, I work about 5 hours a week on these projects, so things do not move along quickly!
That said, focus on the Corsair of late has been on landing gears and wells. Tamiya did a fantastic job on these elements, but I always like to jazz things up a bit. On the gears themselves, I hollowed out a few linkages and added metal rods to pneumatic actuators. The harder part has been adding cables and piping to the wells. Interesting detail I've seen in some Corsairs is a black pressurized bottle in the starboard wheel well. I've no idea what this is or if it belongs in this aircraft, but I liked the additional detail so added it. I would not say the arrangement of cables and pipes is accurate; rather, the objective is to make this space look busy and interesting. Despite the frustrations with small bits and superglue that doesn’t want to adhere, the results are good. Once completed, I airbrush a coat of Mr. Surfacer 1000, then a coat of zinc chromate yellow.
Next up wiil be a gloss clear coat, weathering, and finally a flat clear coat.
